The formulation of human rights as an intercultural learning process

Abstract

This paper attempts to understand the current debate on the human rights of the indigenous populations as the most recent phase of a not yet finished intercultural learning process on what is human and on what are the principles of a real human coexistence worthy of such a name. To demonstrate this latter proposition, the article first reviews the genesis of the so called three human rights generations, then comments on some specific problems concerning the idea of “basic indigenous rights”, ending with a discussion on intercultural dialogue on human rights.
