Abstract

An eidetic phenomenological account of the experience of looking for a word, phrase, or metaphor. Introduces the term ‘semantic texture’ to refer to the active, living engagement with meanings that takes place (largely) through language. Ontological and epistemological features examined include: anticipation, remembrance, fore-having, fulfillment, semantic texture, concepts, creativity, and semantic region. Attempts to justify some of the insights of both transcendental and hermeneutic phenomenologists, especially Husserl, Heidegger, Gadamer, Habermas, and Ricoeur.
